When sharing personal stories, what is significant in what we choose to share and leave behind? These are two home videos, filmed 20 years apart, but share a similar essence.
After being diagnosed with a terminal illness, MacGregor Suzuki orchestrated this final home movie. The other participants, (Cayetana Suzuki, Phoebe Suzuki, and Yvonne Suzuki Licopoli) unaware of the significance of the video they were making at the moment, are caught in an authentic display of curiosity and play, creating a nostalgic time capsule. On the surface: a tour of the yard, looking deeper: tools of life, based in Shinto principles.
The second video is a collection of clips filmed by Cayetana Suzuki over a week in March 2021. Playing around with the concept of vlogging and self-documentation, the clips are romantic, authentic vignettes of life.
